Fending off multiple networks who wanted the show for themselves, ABC has ordered a pilot for the new series “Start Up,” bringing “Scrubs” star Zach Braff back to the small screen. He’ll be directing the pilot and starring in the series, that reunites him with “Scrubs” co-executive producer Matt Tarses.

Based on the podcast of the same name by Alex Blumberg, “Start Up” will revolve around a man in his mid-30’s who quits his successful job to start his own business. Deadline reports that the title of the series will likely change because of a similarly titled series on the Crackle streaming service. But will Braff once again narrate the proceedings like he did on “Scrubs”? Guess we’ll have to wait and see, but whatever you might think about this big screen outings, the actor made the most of his time on the sitcom.
And consequently, whether or not a commitment to a comedy series will affect his ability to direct movies, we’ll just have to wait and see. His next feature, “Going in Style” starring Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine, is in the can and opens next spring. [Deadline]
