Got a Tip?

Scarlett Johansson Hasn’t Been Contacted For Next ‘Dragon Tattoo’ Movie, Says Initial Appeal Was Working With David Fincher

It didn’t take long following the official announcement of “The Girl In The Spider’s Web” — a reboot of the franchise, that will feature a new Lisbeth Salander in place of Rooney Mara‘s Oscar nominated turn in ‘Dragon Tattoo’ — for rumored names to surface. Both Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson — who David Fincher initially eyed for his film before settling on Mara — were said to be in the mix as Sony launched a worldwide search for their new lead. But as these things usually go, it seems more wishlist than reality.

Happy Sad Confused sat down with Johansson, who made it clear that no one has come knocking on her door in an official capacity about the picture.

“I actually found out about that because somebody mentioned it to me, but it never came through any professional….it still hasn’t been mentioned to me by anybody I work with. But it’s hard to imagine…such a huge appeal of that project was the ability to collaborate [with David Fincher],” she said. “Even our creative conversations in the very early stages, just in that audition process, was really exciting.”

So yeah, it’s a long way from Johansson being actually considered, let alone starring, in ‘Spider’s Web,’ and it sounds like Fede Alvarez would really have to bring some compelling creative elements to get the actress interested, if he wanted her.

Check out the full talk with Johansson below, where she also shares what seems to be a growing ambivalence about doing a Black Widow movie, and the unlikely possibility of a sequel to “Lucy.”
