Got a Tip?

Scarlett Johansson & Gwyneth Paltrow Deny Rumors Of Feud On ‘Iron Man 2’ Set, Johansson Says She’s “Done” With MCU: “Chapter Is Over”

Variety reports that on a recent episode of “The Goop Podcast,” Scarlett Johansson and Gwyneth Paltrow discussed their time in the MCU, including working together on “Iron Man 2.” And no, sorry Marvel fans, the actresses didn’t have a feud on that movie’s set.

“People ask me, ‘Is it true that you and Scarlett Johansson didn’t get along on “Iron Man”?” started Paltrow, to which Johansson replied, ““Is that a rumor? You were so nice to me on that movie. I was so petrified. You were so nice to me! You could’ve been awful. I was so out of my comfort zone on that movie. I’d never done anything like that before. Plus, you had established such deep friendships.”

But Paltrow told Johansson that everyone “was so psyched you were there.” “I was so happy to have another woman around,” added Paltrow. “You kept telling me that,” Johansson. “Then I experienced that later on. When I did “Avengers” I was one of the few [women]… it was like a big sausage party.”

Both actresses looked back on their time in the MCU with fondness, but agreed they’re beyond that period now in their respective careers. “It was fun to be in something that resonated so deeply with people culturally,” Paltrow said. “I had never been in that kind of a blockbuster franchise thing either. It was new for me. But then you went on and did all of those huge films.” But Johansson has no interest in reprising her role as Black Widow somehow. “I’m done,” Johansson confirmed. “Chapter is over. I did all that I had to do. Also coming back and playing a character again and again, over a decade of time, is such a unique experience.”

Johansson played Black Widow several times in the MCU up to the character’s final fate in “Avengers: Endgame” and 2019’s “Black Widow.” Meanwhile, Paltrow played Pepper Potts in the “Iron Man” franchise, and also had a cameo in “Endgame,” her final MCU appearance. But Johansson thinks Paltrow’s Pepper could come back somehow. “I think you may come back at some point,” Johansson joked to Paltrow. “Really?” Paltrow responded. “A 64-year-old Pepper Potts? How great.” To which Johansson replied, “100% that’s happening. I can see it. They’re never gonna let you go. Break out that wig, baby.”

Unlike Johansson, Paltrow won’t rule a future cameo out. “I mean, I’m a bit old to be in a suit and all that at this point,” said the actress. “I feel very lucky that I did it because I actually got talked into it. I was friends with Jon Favreau. It was such a wonderful experience making the first “Iron Man” and then to watch how important it has become to the fans.”

So maybe Pepper Potts shows up somehow in a future Phase 5 or Phase 6 MCU installment? Never say never, but “Thunderbolts” already looks fully stacked, so maybe she’ll return “Avengers: Secret Wars” or something.
