A couple of brief casting tidbits for you from two projects that couldn’t be more widely different. Sometimes, that’s just how we roll.
First up, Variety reports that former NFL cheerleader-turned-actress Sarah Shahi — perhaps best known as Carmen on “The L Word” or in her current role in “Fairly Legal” — has joined the Sylvester Stallone knuckledragger “Headshot” (which is now currently untitled). Co-starring Sung Kang, the film follows a young NYPD detective (Kang) who teams with a New Orleans hitman (Stallone) to find the killers of their respective former partners. Shahi will play Stallone’s daughter. The legendary Walter Hill is directing which gives us some hope, and lensing will start later this month in Louisiana, with Warner Bros. backing and distributing the film.
Meanwhile, across the ocean, Screen Daily reports that “The Borgias” star Holliday Grainger has come aboard Mike Newell‘s “Great Expecations.” Adapted for the screen by Rowan Joffe (”The American”), the classic tale follows the story of orphan Pip across 30 years as he encounters characters like escaped convict Magwitch and the shut-away Miss Havisham, while falling for the latter’s adopted daughter Estella (Grainger). She joins Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter and Jeremy Irvine in the film who will playing Magwitch, Miss Havisham and Pip, respectively.
Filming begins on October 10th in London.
