Oh, so we’re still playing this game? There are few debates more tedious to get caught up in than Marvel vs. DC. And yet, there is a certain segment of fandom who will forever compare the two blockbuster franchises as if one is demonstrably better than the other, when at the end of the day, they are both serving the same mainstream audience, just differently (not to mention that DC is just getting started). Regardless, Samuel L. Jackson AKA Nick Fury thinks his team is winning.
And moreover, Jackson thinks people just aren’t that jazzed about the "Man Of Steel" followup. “I don’t know what it is. I don’t know why you can’t get Batman and Superman together and have people as juiced up to be a part of that.” Oh, snap.
Okay, DC fans, the gauntlet has been thrown. Your response? Hit the comments section. [via Flickering Myth]
As much as I enjoyed Cap 2 for what it was (a cool action flick), Redford\’s presence in it didn\’t do anything to elevate the legitimacy of it. It\’s not a Shakespearean play with superheroes, for example. Redford was woefully miscast in a role that literally could\’ve been filled by any character actor walking around Hollywood with a gap in their schedule. Having said that, Jackson isn\’t wrong about the DC live-action films. Man of Steel was a largely humor-less take on Superman and the way Snyder has talked up the sequel, it\’s hard not to expect more of the same. Hell, even Frank Miller was able to incorporate humor into his Dark Knight stories. At the end of the day, it doesn\’t matter how many Hollywood heavy hitters sign on to play bit parts in these films, if the stories they\’re attempting to tell can\’t take the foot off the serious pedal long enough for a moment of levity then they\’re not going to resonate with audiences.
Marvel will have their first egg of face with Ant man. We shall talk about that later.
