Jesus Christ, is there a tentpole that Sam Worthington isn’t going to star in? “Terminator Salvation,” “Avatar,” and “Clash Of The Titans” have all claimed the actor and now he’s looking to extend his talents for effects heavy, franchise material to Alex Proyas’ gestating “Dracula Year Zero.”
Based on a script by “Flash Gordon” writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, the film “explores the origin of Dracula, weaving vampire mythology with the true history of Prince Vlad the Impaler. It seeks to depict Dracula as a flawed hero in a tragic love story set in a dark age of magic and war.” So in essence, it’s another vampire-is-misunderstood story, except this will be a period piece, with an action star that can’t really act. Meh.
We can’t say we’re overly excited by this. While Alex Proyas is a God in some fanboy circles for “Dark City,” the truth is that in the following ten years his films have largely been awful. The project is currently set up over at Universal and we’re guessing they’re probably figuring out how to 3D-ify this thing.
I didn't get around to Dark City until sometime in the last few years. I didn't expect much and it's still thin – some good science fiction art design functioning as window dressing for a barely fleshed out story and characters. The hovering Nosferatu baddies are the only truly memorable thing about it.
Dark City was TERRIBLE.
I dunno about terrible, but one of the most overrated sci-fi films of the last 20 years thanks to Roger Ebert simply because it was overlooked that year? hell yes.
i don't see Worthington(and his aussie accent) in Vlad 's character and i'm not a fan of Alex Proyas but…why not?!
Is this related to Charlie Hunnam's script or a separate project that tackles the exact same thing?

Didn't Francis Ford Coppola already cover this territory in the first 10 minutes of his Dracula film? Thought so.
