Just a couple of hours after news broke that Martin Sheen has been perfectly cast as Uncle Ben in Marc Webb‘s forthcoming “Spider-Man,” word is now arriving of just who might play his wife.
Sally “You like me, you really like me” Field is in talks to play Aunt May in the film. In case you need reminding, while Uncle Ben’s violent death served as the catalyst for Peter Parker to become a superhero, his Aunt May continued to be a supporting and loving presence in his life and provided guidance and counsel. She doesn’t know about his double life and is generally disapproving and afraid of Spider-Man.
So what do you think? Is Sally Field a good choice? We think she could slot the role very well, and the pairing with Sheen seems like a natural and strong fit. Production on “Spider-Man” begins next month with Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Rhys Ifans in the 3D relaunch of the franchise. It will swing into theaters on July 3, 2012.
How can anyone else play Aunt May in a world where Frances Sternhagen is still alive?
