Got a Tip?

Ryan Reynolds Is Not Actually Confirmed For The ‘Highlander’ Remake

nullWith a holiday coming up next week, it's been a pretty slow news week and the morsel making the rounds that Ryan Reynolds has joined the brewing "Highlander" remake was likely too good to resist. But alas, it's not true.

Sources close to the project tell The Playlist that while there have been some talks (first reported back in May), he has not signed on to the film. So quell your excitement/outrage accordingly. The movie has been developing for a while now, with Justin Lin originally slated to direct before he exited last year, with "28 Weeks Later" and "Intruders" helmer Juan Carlos Fresnadillo since taking the helm. Not much has been known about what exactly this remake will entail, except that it has a script from "Twilight" scribe Melissa Rosenberg that has been rewritten by "Iron Man" writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. And this spring, Fresnadillo teased that his approach would use "the materials of the universe" of the original film to help tell the tale.

So put Ryan Reynolds on hold for now — nothing is official. He'll be seen next in "R.I.P.D." opening on June 28, 2013.

  1. Mr. Davis should know better. Poor choice for Connor McCloud's replacement, Sir. Sending out a little boy to fill a man's shoes (kilt). You would be wise to gab Jack Davenport (Pirates of the Caribbean, TV series: COUPLES, and most recently, the fabulous co-star of the break-out TV series: SMASH. This actor is tall darkly handsome, has the unique ability to handle comedy and drama with expertise…and can actually wield a sword with the best of them. In addition, Davenport has a commanding voice and presence that turns women to jello when he is in any scene. That all adds up to BOX OFFICE APPEAL. Mr. Reynolds possesses none of that fire and charisma necessary to get people off their couches and into theatres. Talk to Jack Davenport before you make the mistake of casting the wrong actor for the Highlander part.
Better safe than sorry. Casting, as we all are well aware, can make or break a film or series.
The power is in our hands, I trust you will not let Highlander fans worldwide down.
No disrespect to Reynolds, however, he has none

  2. I hope he passes on this. He's a good actor, very versatile and underrated, who deserves more roles that showcase his talent. A Highlander remake doesn't sound promising.
