Yesterday afternoon, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman decided to go and light a fire on social media by announcing some “Deadpool 3” news. Specifically, the video revealed that Hugh Jackman is returning to the world of superheroes as Wolverine for one more film. And if you sift through the comments on social media, you’ll find that most of the reaction consists of fans losing their shit and being very excited by the prospect of seeing Jackman and Reynolds in the MCU. But there were quite a few folks who had some questions about how this is all happening. Thankfully, Reynolds and Jackman released another video and decided to answer those questions. Sort of.

In a new video from Reynolds and Jackman, the duo is sitting on a couch and speaking directly to the camera. They talk about how they know fans have questions about how “Deadpool 3” is going to integrate Wolverine and the MCU at the same time. So, they wanted to take the time to answer. However, as you might expect from Reynolds, the video takes a turn very quickly and their explanation is drowned out by “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” by the pop group Wham! So, while they tease answers, they’re definitely going to keep many of the answers quiet for now.
The one question they do answer has to do with the fact that Wolverine, aka Logan, was killed in his most recent film, aptly titled “Logan.” So, if he’s dead, how is he going to star in “Deadpool 3?” Well, as they explain, it’s quite simple– “Logan” takes place in 2029 and is sorta in its own continuity. So, in the timeline of “Deadpool 3,” Wolverine is alive and kicking.
As for the other questions about MCU canon and “whether we can do this all day or not,” the duo’s answers were hidden behind the sweet, sweet vocal stylings of George Michael.
Look, with the multiverse and the constantly messed up continuity of the “X-Men” film franchise, there doesn’t need to be much logic to adding Wolverine to “Deadpool 3.” And honestly, even if continuity didn’t allow for it to happen, fans couldn’t care less. Hugh Jackman is going to suit up as Wolverine one more time, and that’s really all people care about.
“Deadpool 3” is expected to arrive in theaters on September 6, 2024.
