Leave it to Ryan Reynolds to grasp onto a social media moment and take the piss out of it. As fandom continues to bask in the Snyder Cut win, the “Deadpool” actor has taken the liberty of going to Twitter to share his own cut of a superhero bomb, specifically his 2011 feature, “Green Lantern.”
While the Zack Snyder cut of “Justice League” is said to be well north of four hours, Reynolds only needed about 30 seconds for his preferred cut of “Green Lantern.” And in fact, just to add a bit of flavor to the 2011 film, he spliced some clips from “Deadpool 2” and “Justice League” just to help round out the run-time. So, really, you’re looking at about 20 seconds of pure “Green Lantern” goodness.
Obviously, the joke is that “Green Lantern” is so bad that a “Reynolds Cut” of the film would be less than a minute long and feature someone else in the lead role (won’t spoil the reveal here). But it does continue the actor’s self-deprecating manner when it comes to discussing his failed attempt to kickstart a new DC cinematic universe just a couple of years before Snyder took the helm of “Man of Steel.”
“Green Lantern” had all the makings of a hit superhero film, especially building from the success of what Marvel Studios was able to do with “Iron Man” and “Iron Man 2” previously. Honestly, “Green Lantern” tried to mimic the Marvel Studios formula before even the MCU had it fully figured out. The film had a major, likeable star in the lead role (Reynolds). The film embraced the comic book origins and actually worked closely with folks who knew a thing or two about the character (Geoff Johns, namely). And the film didn’t shy away from bold colors, superhero costumes, and plenty of quippy humor. Just the finished product was…not good. At all.

And just to further fan the flames online, Reynolds posted another tweet jokingly replying to rumors that are floating around the Twittersphere about future DC Projects. You know, just to keep fans on their toes
He tweeted, “I’m not playing Hawkman in Black Adam. Although I generally do whatever the hell @TheRock tells me to do. I would however love to be in Zack Snyder’s Justice League movie and I’ve heard I may already be in it?”
