Don’t think that “Clue” is happening simply because of the current blockbuster climate. Surely, it doesn’t hurt, but as far back as 2011, Universal was developing a big screen version of the board game, with Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (“Flash Gordon,” “Dracula: Year Zero“) hired to write the script (before that, Gore Verbinski was attached to direct). Nothing came of it, and the rights have now passed to Fox who are going to get cracking on it quickly.

Ryan Reynolds has just inked a three-year, first look deal with the studio — Disney sale be damned! — and the first project to get cookin’ will be “Clue.” I guess it will be an edgier version of the 1985 movie — yep, that’s based on the board game — because “Deadpool” scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will put their pen to the material. Who will Reynolds play? Professor Plum? Colonel Mustard? Guess we’ll have to wait and see, but clearly the actor wants to get his foot in as many tentpoles as possible.
In case you forgot, Reynolds is also lined up to star in the live-action Pokemon movie “Detective Pikachu.” Guess he’s making up for the kind of projects he would’ve been offered if “Green Lantern” had been a success.
“Deadpool 2” opens on May 18th. [Deadline]
Man the original was hilarious. I can see Reynolds bringing that Deadpool wit to Clue. I’m holding out faith he’ll deal with Miller the right way re Deadpool 2
