Got a Tip?

Ryan Gosling Denies ‘Nova’ Rumors But Says He Is Interested In Marvel’s ‘Ghost Rider’

Ryan Gosling is at the point in his career when he’s ready to cash out and become a top-tier franchise-leading A-lister. Not only is he apparently developing a “Wolfman” reboot, but he’s about to star in Netflix’s biggest film of the year, “The Gray Man,” and is currently in production on the live-action “Barbie” film. So, you have to assume a Marvel Studios film isn’t out of the question. And according to Gosling, he already has a superhero in mind.

Ahead of an upcoming interview for MTV News (see below), journalist Joshua Horowitz has shared an interesting fact he learned from Gosling. Part one is that the rumors of him being approached by Marvel Studios to star in “Nova,” a project the studio is definitely developing, are untrue. However, Part two is that Gosling is actually interested in talking to Marvel Studios… about Ghost Rider. Yes, the motorcycle-riding, flaming skull hero who loves to swat bad guys with his flaming chain, once played by the ever-iconic Nicolas Cage.

Of course, that isn’t to say Marvel Studios is actively discussing a new “Ghost Rider” film or TV series with Gosling. However, if you are Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, it might be worth a phone call to speak to Gosling about the future, right?

Unfortunately for Gosling and Marvel, there is already quite a bit of baggage surrounding the character of Ghost Rider. There are the two aforementioned Nic Cage-starring “Ghost Rider” films from the late-2000s/early-2010s. Those films were released in a dark period for comic book features, and they surely don’t hold up very well upon rewatch. Then during the run of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” the show reintroduced Ghost Rider and used the character for a season. Though, to be fair, they used the Robbie Reyes version and not the Johnny Blaze version. You have to assume Gosling is interested in the Blaze character.

All that to say, are we going to see Gosling as Ghost Rider? Who knows? But with “Moon Knight” already out on Disney+, a “Blade” movie, and “Daredevil” series on the way, it seems like Marvel is already paving the way for a Midnight Suns-esque team-up movie that features more of the supernatural and street-level heroes and Ghost Rider would certainly fit that bill. Plus, it appears the actor is definitely keen on speaking to Marvel Studios about the possibility, so it’s certainly something we all probably shouldn’t take very lightly.
