According to Variety, HBO is working with Lena Dunham, Dennis Lehane, and Ruth Wilson to bring the podcast “Mob Queens” to life as a limited series. Wilson will star in the series as Anna Genovese, the second wife to mob boss Vito Genovese. Anna Genovese was a large part of the drag bar scene in the 1930s and is infamous for spilling the details about her husband’s illegal activities during their divorce case.
Lena Dunham is set to co-write the series alongside Dennis Lehane, with the former also acting as director on the series. Dunham is best known for her HBO series, “Girls,” but she has also worked, behind the scenes, on recent series for the network including “Camping” and “Industry.” She is also currently developing multiple film projects including “Catherine, Called Birdy” and “Sharp Stick.” Lehane is best known as a crime author, who has also worked on projects such as “The Wire,” “Boardwalk Empire,” “Mr. Mercedes,” and “The Outsider.”
