Got a Tip?

Kevin Feige Says Russo Brothers Are “Not Connected” To ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ & ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ [Comic-Con]

Yesterday, we saw Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige dish out a good amount of information about the studio’s upcoming plans for Phase 5-6. When it comes to Phase 6, it was confirmed we’ll be getting two more “Avengers” installments with “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” as part of the greater Multiverse Saga with Jonathan Major’s Kang The Conqueror assumed to be at the center of both films similar to Thanos.

However, despite the Russo Brothers talking up their desire to direct a “Secret Wars” film, the studio head told Deadline – see video below – that they’re not going to be involved with those upcoming “Avengers” movies. But, Feige doesn’t rule out working with the filmmakers in the future without naming what that could be.

“They’re not connected to it,” Feige told Deadline. “They’ve been very direct about that. We love them, they love us. We want to find something to do together, it’s not this.”

The Russo Brothers recently released Netflix’s huge action flick “The Gray Man” and are extremely busy with a heap of other feature film projects on their plate. Some of those other films include things such as the Netflix sci-fi dramaThe Electric State” with Millie Bobby Brown; a live-action film based on the popular anime series “Battle of The Planets”; and a new incarnation of “The Thomas Crown Affair,” starring Michael B. Jordan as the charming art thief. The sibling duo is also in early development on a sequel and prequel to “The Gray Man,” but unclear if they’ll helm those themselves.

Given the 2025 release dates for the two “Avengers” films, there is an expectation that that filming will likely take place back-to-back in 2024, which means the studio has some time to select a director. Marvel certainly has plenty of options and could easily circle back to the Russo Brothers for things like their “X-Men” reboot, as they’ve been vocal about getting their hands on one of their beloved Marvel characters, Wolverine.
