Sorry, Marvel fans, it doesn’t look like Silver Surfer is going to make a surprise appearance in “Avengers: Infinity War.” So says the men behind the film, directors Joe and Anthony Russo.
Speaking to YahooUK, the two directors were asked about the recent rumor that the Silver Surfer (who is notably on the Fox side of the Disney/Fox merger) would show up in the upcoming superhero epic. “I don’t think we own Silver Surfer,” Joe Russo said. “But it’s fan-wish fulfillment and, you know, if this Disney-Fox deal goes through there’s going to be a lot more characters coming into the Marvel universe, so some of those crazy fan theories might come true.”
That wasn’t all the juicy tidbits of information that the directors were ready to drop on Yahoo. When asked about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the current “Phase 3” is finished, Anthony Russo said the difference between “Phase 3” and “Phase 4” would be “pretty drastic.”
“I think massively different,” Joe continued. “I think that this is if Marvel has been writing a book for ten years, it’s the end of the book and someone is going to write a new book. Who knows what that new book will be but this is an ending and that’ll be a new beginning.”
But fans are going to have to wait until after the untitled ‘Avengers 4’ is released in May 2019. One last thing, the two filmmakers covered is that untitled film. It’s been long-known that the title for ‘Avengers 4’ would be a bit of a spoiler, and everyone associated with the production has been tight-lipped about what it might be.
However, many fans assumed that this secrecy was leading up to a big reveal at the end of ‘Infinity War,’ when the credits would say, “The Avengers will next be seen in ______.” When asked if this is the way the title will be revealed, Joe Russo shot down that theory.
“No, no,” Joe Russo said. “It’s going to be quite a long while before people see that title. We need people to see this movie, digest this movie, and then we can tell them what the next story is they’re going to see.”
Considering that Marvel Studios loves to use established storyline titles for their films, the possibilities are endless. However, one that sticks out is perhaps the most foreboding, “Avengers: Disassembled.” Hmmmm. Maybe?
