Got a Tip?

‘Russian Doll’ Season 2 Teaser: Natasha Lyonne Returns To Write, Direct & Showrun New Sci-Fi Shenanigans

Sure, Season 1 of “Russian Doll” seemed to put an end to the time-loop shenanigans that serve as the thrust of the series. But nevertheless, the series was a massive hit for Netflix, both commercially and critically. So, as you might expect, despite the story seemingly over, there’s always room for Season 2.

While the new teaser for Season 2 of “Russian Doll” does little to explain the story of the series’ next batch of episodes, we know the dark comedy is set to return in April with seven new episodes continuing the story of Nadia and Alan, played by Natasha Lyonne and Charlie Barnett, respectively. Except, this time there’s no time-loop. Instead, we get more sci-fi hijinks as the duo discovers a time portal in Manhattan.

Perhaps most interesting about Season 2 of “Russian Doll” is the creative voice behind the new episodes. Season 1 was co-created and showrun by writer-producer Leslye Headland. However, the new episodes see co-creator Lyonne stepping up to not only produce but also write, direct, and showrun. All of this in addition to starring. Lyonne is wearing ALL of the hats, it would seem.

“Russian Doll” Season 2 debuts on Netflix on April 20. You can watch the first teaser below.

Here’s the synopsis for Season 2:

Set four years after Nadia (Natasha Lyonne) and Alan (Charlie Barnett) escaped mortality’s time loop together, season two of Russian Doll will continue to explore existential thematics through an often humorous and sci-fi lens. Discovering a fate even worse than endless death, this season finds Nadia and Alan delving deeper into their pasts through an unexpected time portal located in one of Manhattan’s most notorious locations. At first they experience this as an ever-expanding, era-spanning, intergenerational adventure but they soon discover this extraordinary event might be more than they bargained for and, together, must search for a way out.
