Russell Brand To Play 14th Century Mercenary John Hawkswood In An Action-Comedy

Brit comedian/actor Russell Brand is set to lead an action-comedy take on the life of 14th century mercenary John Hawkswood.

The film will be penned by Jared Stern — who recently rewrote the currently in production Brand-starrer “Arthur” — and is being developed by 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment after Brand reportedly discussed the morally challenged but gifted swordsman with Chernin comedy head Nicky Weinstock, a previous collaborator with Brand on his ventures with Judd Apatow.

Brand has quickly found himself a capable leading man in Hollywood after nailing his role as self-centered rocker Aldous Snow in Nicholas Stoller’s “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” that spurred the spin-off film “Get Him To The Greek.”

The actor has a supporting role in Julie Taymor’s forthcoming Venice premiere “The Tempest” where he plays Trinculo and a call-in job in the animated film “Hop” on the way. And all this after an on-air prank call row on his BBC radio show with Jonathan Ross threatened to derail his career…
