Got a Tip?

Rumors Swirl Around Steven Spielberg & ‘Robopocalypse.’ Again.

“With DreamWorks, everything is potentially a Steven project – until it’s not. That’s why everyone’s in a frenzy trying to read it.”

And that quote from a DreamWorks insider pretty much sums up the story right there. If you recall, back in March, Steven Spielberg was rumored to be circling an adaptation of the upcoming novel “Robopocalypse,” from author Daniel H. Wilson about an epic war between the human race and robots (as the title might suggest). The rumor came and went and with the director now deep into production on next year’s Oscar bait, “War Horse” we figured that was the last of it. Guess again.

The project has just received a fresh script from Drew Goddard (“Cloverfield,” “Cabin In The Woods”) which has sent Hollywood in a tizzy. Why? Read the quote above. If Spielberg decides he likes the script enough to do it, that’s great, but even if he doesn’t, the mere fact that the director let his eyes pass over the pages of the script is enough of a blessing in Hollywood to deem it as something worth making, sending agents falling over themselves to pick it up for their talent. Yeah, we don’t get Hollywood either.

So where are we with this rumor? To recap: “Robopocalypse” has a new script that Spielberg might possibly maybe perhaps read when he has a free moment and then might possibly maybe perhaps decide to direct. This is why we hate rumor stories. [Vulture]
