Rumor: Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus 2’ Is Delaying Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Alien’ Movie

Neill Blomkamp, ‘Alien’ FranchiseEarlier this year, fans were both excited and warily confused when it was announced that Neill Blomkamp would be directing a new entry in the "Alien" series. His movie proposes bringing back Sigourney Weaver, but would ignore everything after James Cameron‘s "Aliens" from 1986 and act as a "genetic sibling" to that film and its 1979 predecessor. Okay, cool, but what about Ridley Scott‘s "Prometheus 2"?  Reports earlier this month suggested that he would start shooting that film in January 2016, and according to the latest rumors, whatever Scott is planning will hold up Blomkamp’s picture.

According to Bloody Disgusting, 20th Century Fox is following Scott’s request on the order in which the movies will hit the big screen. “ ‘Alien 5‘ is still very much in the works, as Fox remains hot on the idea,” their souce said. “Blomkamp continues to work on the script (only an outline existed previously) and refine the tale he is telling. Ridley Scott is still producing, but has insisted on ‘Prometheus 2’ being made first.”

Essentially, Scott would shoot "Prometheus 2" next year for a 2017 release, and then Blomkamp would follow with "Alien: Whatever" in 2018, giving him time to develop the story, script, and scheduling with Weaver, who is about to get awfully busy with a bunch of new "Avatar" movies (which are also being produced by Fox).

Meanwhile, it seems things could change in terms of the scope of Blomkamp’s film, with whispers suggesting the storylines of "Alien 3" and "Alien: Resurrection" might not be entirely ignored. If all this is true, it kinda sounds like Blomkamp is still figuring out his way into the continuum.  But hey, cool concept art though, right?

  1. Blomkamp seems to be devolving as a film maker and anything that pushes back his involvement (to never) works for me. Maybe Scott finally saw Chappie?

  2. I\’m not trolling and I\’m not 12. \’Aliens\’ was more interested in the action and in one-liners. And I wanted to kill all those marines myself. \’Alien\’ was a masterpiece and, for all its flaws, \’Prometheus\’ was still a good film, in my opinion.

  3. Mess? I guess the third alien could be called a decent mess and haven\’t watched 4, but Aliens and Alien are brilliant, billion times better than the mess that was Prometheus. Ridley scott needs to take a break
