Got a Tip?

Rumor: ‘Indiana Jones 5’ Is Coming In 2018

Indiana Jones And The Temple Of DoomIt seems no one can get their story straight at Lucasfilm when it comes to the Indiana Jones franchise. Just last month, producer Kathleen Kennedy said, “[Another Indiana Jones movie] will one day be made inside this company. When it will happen, I’m not quite sure. We haven’t started working on a script yet, but we are talking about it.” Now a month later comes a conflicting statement by another longtime producer on the adventure series.

"… we’ve had no discussions on Indy 5 to date," Frank Marshall — who is also Kathleen Kennedy’s husband — recently told Slashfilm. He also denied that anybody was looking to Chris Pratt to take over the lead role, a rumor that even the actor himself has shot down. And now, more chatter has emerged about when the college prof hero will return to the big screen.

AICN reports that according to their source, Lucasfilm is planning to drop a new Indiana Jones movie in the fourth quarter of 2018. And that’s about all the intel they have. No word on who will write or direct the thing, or even whether or not Harrison Ford will return in some capacity, but they speculate that the success of "Jurassic World" (also produced by Marshall, and longtime ‘Jones’ helmer Steven Spielberg) might’ve sparked some movement.

Whether or not this is dry erase board planning that could change or something more concrete we’ll just have to wait and see. But that won’t stop folks from dreaming about who should go on the next big adventure to find another historic artifact. Who do you think would make the next great Indiana Jones? Let us know below.

  1. I think what we will get is an Indiana Jones movie that starts in the 1960s with Ford in the first 20 minutes, the opening action scene, McGuffin introduction, and then it\’ll flash back to the 1930s or 40s for the rest of the movie, and when it flashes back it\’ll be a younger actor–a literal passing of the torch by Ford to someone else. Then maybe the very end of the film flashes forward again to Old Indy for the finale. A literal passing of the torch from Ford to someone new.

  2. Chris Pratt? It\’s no wonder Hollywood continues to lower the bar – today\’s audiences will watch anything just so they have something to do on Saturday night.

  3. Colin Trevorrow is honestly not a great director. People are confusing the huge box office for Jurassic World with actual talent. It\’s honestly a fluke that the movie did so well and the critics were as kind as they were to it. I hope they keep Trevorrow away from Indy. While I like Chris Pratt and think he would make a decent Jones, part of me wishes Ford and Spielberg got one last crack at it. Crystal Skull shouldn\’t be how they leave this franchise. They deserve something better. But it\’s unlikely they\’ll return, since REBOOT is Hollywood\’s favorite word nowadays. Thought with a series like Indiana Jones they could get away with setting a new movie with Pratt between Raiders and Last Crusade and keep the old ones in continuity. After all, the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles TV show had different young actors play Indy at different points throughout his life and that worked out just fine.

  4. Harrison to play indy – passing his hat down to his son to carry on the adventure who should be played by Chris Pratt as Shia lebouff seems to have blown it. Spielberg and Lucas at the helm. It is their baby afterall

  5. If they take the Daniel Craig / 007 route and have Chris Pratt play a younger version of Indy and how he becomes the Indy we love..could be very good. Especially with young BELOCH as a adversary

  6. I second Bradley Cooper. Chris Pratt is likable and sweet, but he doesn\’t project the intelligence that Ford or Cooper does. Plus Pratt\’s literally just played two action-adventure characters in huge movies, and I\’m already bored

  7. If it were post Last Crusade? Timothy Olyphant without a doubt. Before Temple of Doom (which is a prequel to Raiders) Chris Pine with someone like George Clooney as Professor Ravenwood.

  8. If they do reboot Indiana Jones I think that Bradley Cooper would be the better choice to plan Dr. Jones instead of Chris Pratt. I think he can pull off a recreation of Ford\’s swagger as Indiana Jones than Chris Pratt can. Nothing against Chris Pratt though. I think he is a tremendous actor.

  9. I think the best choice to play proffesor Jones without doubts is Chris Pratt. the momment to re-launch the franchise is now. I guess the winner team should be: Colin Trevorrow directing, Chris Pratt as Indy and Mr. Spielberg producing.
