Rumor: Braniac Is The Villain Of ‘Justice League’ & ‘Suicide Squad’ Lineup Revealed

Justice League, Suicide SquadThere’s rarely a late Friday when you can leave for your weekend without a few new details on some upcoming Warner Bros/DC Comics movies. This weekend is no different.

These bits and bobs come from the folks Latino Review, who always seem have their sources in the right place, especially when it comes to the world of superhero films. First up, they’re reporting that Brainiac will be the villain of "Justice League" and it looks like the Academy Award-winning writer of “Argo” and “Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice,” Chris Terrio, will be indeed pen the script (all at the behest of Affleck in the first place no doubt). It’s an interesting development, considering that super baddie Darkseid was long speculated to be the antagonist, but like Thanos in “The Avengers” universe—the Marvel analogue to DC’s Darkseid—it sounds like they’ll be holding off the ultimate super villain for later down the road. It’s also interesting for the fact that Brainiac is a villain in the pages of Superman. So does that mean a “Justice League” team-up movie, but centered more around Clark Kent than Bruce Wayne? Something to ponder…

Meanwhile, the developing "Suicide Squad," which has "Fury" director David Ayer at the top of the list to helm, has settled on which characters to feature in the film: Blockbuster, Multiplex, Jaculi, Mindboggler, Harkness aka Captain Boomberang, Vixen and Deadshot. The latter would be the lead, with Harkness and Vixen as the co-stars, and everyone else likely just set to jump into action. Not that big of a surprise when you consider the rebooted classic Suicide Squad comic line-up of the late 1980s featured a similar line-up with Harness, Vixen and Deadshot at the forefront.

Thoughts? You know where to leave ’em….

  1. If DC were smart they\’d do the exact opposite Marvel has done with Thanos and not dance around with teases and cut-aways of someone in the shadows pulling the strings of a small fry. Unfortunately DC isn\’t smart and instead of having groundwork laid out for years for their film projects, they\’ve had their thumbs up their asses trying to get solitary reboots to work with the right creative types.

  2. These are movies, not television shows. Thankfully no one from Arrow will be involved with any of these productions (if they were associated with the colossal mess that is Arrow, they would star Emily Bett Rickard as Felicity and forget all the other comic characters).

  3. Thankfully Marvel has set a standard not only in $$$ grossed but also the quality and respect given to the intelligence of their audience. It\’s a win/win, not always the case for Studio Blockbusters
