Despite Fox telling us last month that there was no script in place for a “Die Hard 5” and that any potential sequel would be “way off” that hasn’t stopped gums from flapping about what we might see in the next installment of the franchise.
What’s Playing is hearing that the film is still working with the title “Die Hard 24/7” (though we presume the idea to pair John McClane with Jack Bauer is now out) and that yet another relative and/or spawn of Hans Gruber, the original and best villain the series ever had, is going to emerge in the pic to give Bruce Willis yet another bad day. As you might recall, Jeremy Irons chewed the scenery with relish as Simon Gruber in “Die Hard: With A Vengeance.”
Frankly, we don’t really care who the next baddie is along as the plot isn’t as ridiculous as “the internet is borked” storyline of “Live Free Or Die Hard.” Still no word yet if/when “Die Hard 5” will happen but it’s a pretty safe guess they’re still putting a together a script worth getting excited about. But Bruce Willis is busy right now anyway shooting Rian Johnson‘s “Looper,” circling Wes Anderson‘s “Moonrise Kingdom” and likely returning to Sylvester Stallone‘s developing sequel to his old-dudes-ripping-roids-together pic “The Expendables.”
Come on. It\’s easier than that. Hans had a twin brother. And now you can actually have Alan Rickman return to the franchise. 😉
I say Fox should just embrace the stupidity this franchise has reached, go all out and make the villain Hans Gruber\’s CLONE! Rehire Alan Rickman & you\’re certain to make a better film than the last few.
I mean two or three films ago this franchise stopped being about a \”Normal Guy having to survive in Extraordinary Situations\” and started being about \”Bald Superman Bruce Willis\”. Just go full stupid. Embrace the idiocy!
….but they\’ll go for gritty realism… which these days means John McClane is going to outrun a nuclear explosion while riding a kangaroo across the Outback…. SHOT HANDHELD!
Come on, it has to be titled \”Old Habits Die Hard!\”
