After the smash, Oscar winning success of the completely original sci-fi thrill ride “Gravity,” Warner Bros. wants to work with director Alfonso Cuaron again — but only on established properties. At least that’s what the rumor mill is saying. Earlier this week, word surfaced that Cuaron was in talks with Warner Bros. to direct their ‘Harry Potter‘ spinoff, “Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.” And now a fresh piece of intel (as always, take with a grain of salt and don’t freak out) has Cuaron being approached to direct a prequel to Stanely Kubrick‘s classic “The Shining” titled “The Overlook Hotel.”
According to Schmoes Know, WB has essentially offered the project to Cuaron and it’s his if he wants it (or not). This is a project that has been brewing at the studio for a while now, and it has some major names behind it. “The Walking Dead” showrunner/writer/producer Glen Mazzara is writing the script, with Laeta Kalogridis (“Avatar,” “Shutter Island“), Bradley Fischer (“Black Swan,” “Zodiac“) and James Vanderbilt (“Zodiac,” “The Amazing Spider-Man“) all on board to produce. As for the story? No word yet, and as much as we hate this idea, we sorta curious to see what element of “The Shining” the filmmakers want to expand upon. (But if you want to know what happens after the events in the book, Stephen King recently published a sequel, “Doctor Sleep“).
Again, this is just a rumor and we’d wager WB is probably throwing a lot of stuff at Cuaron to see what he wants to do next. But frankly, we’d rather see him to do anything else than a prequel to a movie that doesn’t need one or a spinoff to a franchise he already put his stamp on.
Guis calm down. The Walking Dead TV show writer is writing the screenplay. Wut culd go wrung with that????
Stupid.
NO JUST NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jack Nicholson is the only person for it
3 years ago,the rumor was that WB wanted to do The Shining's prequel with Nolan and Bale
Why not just adapt "Doctor Sleep"? Cuaron could definitely make that more enjoyable.
I wonder if they'll use some of the backstory in King's book. Not of the Torrence family, but of the hotel's shady past/ties to the mob. In reality, they'll probably focus on Delbert Grady's meltdown as the previous caretaker, which would be a shame since it would be a very similar story to that of Jack Torrence.
Who is "we" A Shining prequel would be amazing.
