Got a Tip?

‘The Rum Diary’ Headed For Cannes?; ‘Arizona Dream’ Finally Hits DVD & Alain Resnais’ ‘Wild Grass’ Gets Trailer

Is “The Rum Diary” headed for Cannes? Maybe. Vulture asked Aaron Eckhart about the status of the film to which he replied, “I don’t know, I don’t know where they’re at. I think they’re trying to get into Cannes, maybe.” That’s about as definitive as anything we’ve heard on the project in a while. The film is an adaptation of the Hunter S. Thompson novel that stars Johnny Depp, Amber Heard, Giovanni Ribisi and Richard Jenkins. Bruce Robinson directs.

Speaking of Johnny Depp, his long unavailable (at least in R1) film “Arizona Dream” directed by Emir Kusturica and co-starring Jerry Lewis, Vincent Gallo, Faye Dunaway and Lili Taylor (seriously, that cast alone should make you pick this one up) is finally being released via the Warner Archive. The film is a favorite among Playlisters, and is one of the most endearing yet willfully absurd films you’re ever likely to see. Track this one down.

Colin Egglesfield (“Melrose Place,” “All My Children”) has joined the previously announced rom-com “Something Borrowed” starring John Krasinski and Ginnifer Goodwin about “a Manhattan attorney who becomes involved with her best friend’s fiance following her 30th birthday.”

Matt Bomer (“White Collar”) and Ari Graynor are in negotiations to join the previously announced Anna Faris and Chris Evans comedy “What’s Your Number?”. The film is set to shoot this spring, so Evans won’t have any conflicts with “Captain America.” The film is about “a woman who treks through her sexual past to find Mr. Right, exploring the idea of sexual quotas and whether such numbers matter.” The filmmakers hope to get “high-profile cameos” presumably to show up as Faris’ past sexual conquests.

While we think it’s greatly overrated, fans of the Spanish language horror sensation “[Rec]” should be pleased that it’s sequel, set 15 minutes after authorities lose contact with the people in the building in the first film, is set to hit theaters in limited release on July 9th. It will then hit DVD in time for Halloween in October.

The trailer for the latest film by French directing legend Alain Resnais has arrived. “Wild Grass” tells the story of a romantic obsession that begins when a man returns a woman’s stolen wallet. Sabine Azema, Andre Dussollier, Anne Consigny, Emmanuelle Devos & Mathieu Amalric star in the film which will hit theaters in limited release on June 25th.
