Hoo boy, we can hear the haters sharpening their knives on this one already, so let’s get right to it.
Variety reports that Rosemarie DeWitt, John Krasinski and Olivia Thirlby are in negotiations to star in “Nobody Walking.” The film will be directed by indie helmer Ry Russo-Young who made some minor waves with “You Won’t Miss Me” (which we really didn’t like) and was co-written by “Tiny Furniture” writer/director Lena Duman — who is another lightning rod of sorts for critics. The story is set in Los Angeles and takes place over a week and centers on a family that takes an artist into their home only to find she starts disrupting their lives. No word yet on who is playing what but we presume Thirlby will be the young artist in question.
We’re sure those who already have it in for this writing/directing pair will be ready to sink their teeth into this one from the cast to the premise — which is admittedly stereotypically “indie” — but we’ll wait to see how this takes shape. This one is moving fast with plans to get it before cameras at the end of May.
Fuck. I actually really like this cast, it\’s a shame that Lena Dunham has her stink on it – also, this premise has Sundance leftovers written all over it. Precious white people problems.

I don\’t recall many people other than you guys hating You Wont Miss Me. It didn\’t exactly get rave reviews, but by my recollection, most people considered it a decent little experiment. Tiny Furniture, on the other hand…
I\’m not outraged that Criterion picked her feature for inclusion. To each his own. There are many films that Criterion have chosen in recent years that don\’t work for me. I just think she\’s a terribly overrated filmmaker. Now go ahead and bring on the \”you think you can do better?\” argument that always attempts to shut up anyone with a critical eye on your prized pig, but fact of the matter is her debut rubbed people the wrong way and seemed to get a pass from many sources without drawing attention to some glaring deficiencies. That being said, as I said before, to each his own.

I do find it funny how Lena Dunham has become this hate-figure among the Criterion snobs, who are AGHAST that a DVD label has dared to besmirch its name by releasing a film they didn\’t enjoy. Criterion slaves are about the worst type of film fan around.
Smash: That made me laugh. I bet there\’s also a scene where, after a big argument with the middle-class couple, the artist angrily runs away, but leaves behind a beautiful painting of Jim and his wife to show them how much they meant to her.
I\’d be very surprised if that isn\’t exactly how it\’ll pan out, Smash Tit-House.
