Rosamund Pike, best known for her Academy Award-nominated turn as the tormented Amy Elliot Dunne in David Fincher’s 2014 Gone Girl, is set to team up with director/writer Emerald Fennell in a new drama concentrating on a “grand, aristocratic English family.” Reportedly titled “Saltburn,” the film will be familiar territory for Fennell, as she attended the prestigious boarding school Marlborough College in the eponymous English city. Filming is due to begin later this year.
Also joining the cast are “Euphoria” alumnus Jacob Elordi and Irish actor Barry Keoghan, coming off “Eternals” and “The Batman.”
In 2020, Fennel made her directorial debut with “Promising Young Woman,” which would earn her an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay while garnering nominations for Best Director and Best Picture. Starring Carey Mulligan, “Promising Young Woman” chronicles the vengeance sought by Cassie Thomas (Mulligan) several years after her best friend’s rape, its lack of response, and her eventual suicide. Mulligan was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for the role.
As we await more news on this new project from Pike and Fennell, we can expect to see the latter in Greta Gerwig’s forthcoming “Barbie,” based on the iconic toy line from Mattel. She joins a cast already featuring Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, and America Ferrera. Meanwhile, Pike can be found in Amazon Studios’ “The Wheel of Time,” a fantasy series based on Robert Jordan’s novels of the same name.
