More Rooney Mara and Ben Mendelsohn is always a good thing, and the New Year will bring them together in “Una.” The film hit Telluride and TIFF last fall (here’s our review), and though it didn’t make quite a big splash, the actors in the lead role (not to mention a supporting turn from the always great to see Riz Ahmed) make it one to keep an eye on.
Based on the acclaimed stage play, the story follows a young woman who tracks down and confronts the man who abused her as a child, with provocative results. Here’s the official synopsis:
When a young woman unexpectedly arrives at an older man’s workplace, looking for answers, the secrets of the past threaten to unravel his new life. Their confrontation will uncover buried memories and unspeakable desires. It will shake them both to the core.
“Una” opens in Singapore on January 5, 2017. There’s currently no U.S. distributor for the film.
