While Amy Pascal and Scott Rudin are returning to the world of Lisbeth Salander with “The Girl In The Spider’s Web,” what exactly that will mean following David Fincher‘s “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” is uncertain. While Alicia Vikander has been bandied about as a potential new lead, according to Rooney Mara, no one has told her she’s not returning. And it would seem the proposition of the actress and Daniel Craig coming back is not entirely off the table either.

EW has a few more details about the project, and the magazine says the duo “could return” for ‘Spider’s Web.’ However, the article also adds that casting remains “unclear” and no one is officially commenting. My guess? Pascal and Rudin are putting the project together, getting a script and finding a director before they broach the topic with Mara and Craig.
But you can probably count Fincher out. He battled with Sony over the original movie, he wouldn’t have as much control over marketing as he wielded last time (it’s also one of the reasons he walked from “Steve Jobs“) and the budget for ‘Spider’s Web’ will be significantly smaller: it’s reportedly $60 million versus $100 million for ‘Dragon Tattoo.’ However, that figure will allow the movie to be R-rated with far less money to recoup.
So it seems the ‘Spider’s Web’ is still spreading with an opportunity to catch Mara and Craig. Do you want them back? Let us know below.
Si, tienen que volver juntos!!!!
I believe the Mara/Craig combination was spot on and the ending demands a follow up. So hurry up and get on with the Girl Who Played With Fire, the Lisbeth and Mikael saga with Rooney Mara & Daniel Craig needs to continue.
I pray for the return of Mara & Craig, and I\’d kill to have Fincher back.
Por favor, rooney mara como Salander. lo ruego!
The actors in the original Swedish versions, especially Noomi Rapace, were much, much better, and Daniel Craig is not like Blomkvist as described in the books. This is a good chance to recast with cheaper actors that are more faithful to the characters. Rooney Mara gave a good performance but didn\’t fit the role as much.
Love Both–Rooney is excellent; Get them both and soon–they\’re not getting any younger.
Yes, I want them back
Just let this project die already. No one apart from Mara, wants this.
I definitely want them back! Their duet is a perfection. And David Fincher must return too, he made this perfection.
It won\’t be interesting without Mara. And I\’m not watching if Mara replaced by Vikanwhat
Harldy matters if Mara or Craig comes back. Just don\’t make it for a $100 million. Silly money.
No movie without ROONEY
Don\’t even bother if Mara doesn\’t reprise her role. It would be a total waste of time and money. Ideally Fincher returns with Mara and Craig and pick up from where they left off however I can live with just having Mara come back otherwise I see no point!
Get both Mara and Craig back, make the script perfect, and you\’ll have a film people will want to watch.
Halfway through reading the novel and Blomkvist and Salander haven\’t had a scene together.
Im not watching without Rooney.
There is no better MB then Daniel Craig. We need them both back. They made a good pairing.
They shouldn\’t make the movie at all if they can\’t get at least Mara. She got an Oscar nomination for that role for a reason.
The strongest of all the four novels is The Girl Who Played With Fire. It\’d be a bummer to see Fincher not a part of it.
I can\’t imagine anyone other than Rooney Mara being Lisabeth Salander
