Got a Tip?

Ron Perlman Still Pushing For ‘Hellboy 3,’ Says Guillermo Del Toro Has “Broad Strokes” Of Story Mapped Out

null

It’s nearly a ritual at this point, with every six months or full year bringing yet another query to Guillermo del Toro or Ron Perlman about the possibility of “Hellboy 3.” But last year, Legendary Pictures exec Thomas Tull — who backed “Pacific Rim” and del Toro’s upcoming “Crimson Peak” — effectively said that even if he wanted to do a “Hellboy” sequel, Sony/Columbia own the rights, and basically they’re unlikely to go down that road. But hey, you never know, and Perman is still stoking the flame for one last chapter.

Chatting with HeyUGuys, the actor one again laid bare his passion for the character, and revealed del Toro does have a general sense of where the story goes next. “I’d like to finish it. I’d like for there to be a third film because the first two films were set up for this huge resolve and he [Guillermo Del Toro] already understands what that resolve will look like,” the actor said. “He never gave me the nuts and bolts of it, but he gave me a rather broad strokes sketch of what the third film would look like and it’s so epic and so deserved by the fans that hung in there for the first two that I really feel as though it’s essential that we make it. So I fight for it every day. Sometimes I’m the only voice and sometimes there are others, but I’m never going to stop trying to get Hellboy 3 made!”

Time to start a petition? It’s not impossible it will happen, but we’d say don’t hold your breath either. Moreover del Toro fans, do you want him to revisit “Hellboy” or do one of the other zillion projects he has cooking instead, one with new creatures, characters, stories and more? Seems to us, the latter option is more attractive.

  1. For God's sake, man – just do it already! Heck, I'M not getting any younger. 8^) We need an ending – I've read all of Mike Mignola's Hellboy comics so I know what's coming but I still need to see Guillermo's take on it.

  2. Yes we r ready to the nx installment. We need to know about the twins!!! Hw they r nd if they will b following in their father's footsteps or even have a combination of their parents' strengths nd abilities.

  3. I would love to see the trilogy get finished. Is such a unique sorry for live action. It would awesome. It I had it my way, I'd get HB III done and then ATMOM. ..

  4. Sony/Columbia would get yield on their copyright if they co-operated. That's more than they're getting now. We can all hope that Perlman prevails on this one.

  5. This movie is unlikely to ever get made. No matter how badly Ron Pearlman wants it,nthe fact is that as an actor he's not in any position to actually do anything about it.

  6. Keep in mind that Hellboy, for the longest time, was one of del Toro's dream projects (up there with Death: The High Cost of Living, as far as comic-related material goes). If a studio would fund it, I think he'd gladly take the opportunity to (possibly) close out his work with it, especially considering how masterfully set up The Golden Army was.
