Got a Tip?

Robin Wright Talks Kevin Spacey And Admits She “Didn’t Know The Man” Just The “Incredible Craftsman”

One of Netflix’s biggest shows is returning later this year, but it’s going to look very, very different. When “House of Cards” season 6 sees its release, it’s going to be missing the show’s star, Kevin Spacey. Fired from the show after multiple people came forward, accusing the actor of sexual harassment and assault, Spacey’s role of Frank Underwood was written off the show, in a yet undisclosed fashion. And now, for the first time, we get to hear the new star of the show, Robin Wright, speak up about Spacey and what’s next for the series.

“I think we were all surprised, of course, and ultimately saddened,” said Wright regarding learning about Spacey’s accusations, in a new interview with “The Today Show.”

When she was asked whether or not she believed Netflix did the right thing by cutting ties to Spacey, Wright said, “I don’t know how to comment on that. But I think at that time, the shock was so intense all over the nation for many reasons, many stories many people. I think that everybody felt it was respectful to back off.”

It was actor Anthony Rapp who seemed to get the whole ball rolling on Spacey. Rapp came forward, as a response to the #MeToo movement, and recounted a story in the ‘80s when Spacey allegedly forced himself on the young actor. Since then, multiple accusers have stepped forward with similar stories.

Wright was asked whether or not there were any warning signs she could have seen that would have hinted at this sort of behavior from Spacey. “We were co-workers really, we weren’t never socialized outside of work,” she said. “Respectful, professional relationship. He was so great with me. Never disrespectful to me. That’s my personal experience. That is the only thing I feel I have the right to talk about.”

Ultimately, it appears that the relationship that Wright and Spacey had forged through years of working together is completely gone, as she hasn’t spoken to him since the decision by Netflix. “I haven’t heard from him, and I don’t even know how to reach him,” she admitted.

“Kevin and I knew each other between action and cut,” Wright said. “I didn’t know the man…I knew the incredible craftsman that he is.”

While we don’t know an exact release date for season 6 of “House of Cards,” Netflix did release a little Independence Day teaser:

  1. It’s quite amazing to me that ordinary non-Hollywood people, who don’t have access to celebrities or their inner circles, have known for years about Spacey’s pervy reputation. Do these actors walk about with their eyes closed or something? Nobody expects to her go full vigilante and start smashing Hollywood paedo rings or anything but come on, at least lie to us convincingly that you didn’t know he was a creep.

    • she wasn’t asked about rumors but about red flags of behaviour in her presence. And she told her truth, you might like it or not, believe it or not, but that’s her truth. She can’t go to national tv and said she heard rumors too, which is probably the case. She wasn’t even asked about that. And it makes complete sense that in front of her Spacey could have been a perfect and professional gentleman. If we’ve learnt something from the horrendous metoo stories is that abusers and harassers are great at having a double face, a double life, at knowing exactly when and to whom be charming and kind and respectful and when to unleash the monsters they truly are. Wright doesn’t owe us a thing. She was classy, professional and wise. She’s not the type who would shred Spacey to pieces to the satisfaction of the social media hype. She could and would have give her great headlines. Bu she won’t use the metoo for self promotion of her image and personal branding opportunity as other celebrities are doing, to the great damage of the real metoo movement (and I’m talking specifically of people like Amber Tamblyn)
