We’re not big fans of offer stories for obvious reasons. Everyone in Hollywood — directors, writers and actors — is offered parts, scripts, meetings, etc., but it’s not really news until something happens. From Deadline, THR (more an “in-the-mix story”) onto Vulture, this is the world we must all play ball in.
So with that in mind, Robert Rodriguez has been offered to direct “Deadpool” by 20th Century Fox, tipped to us by the latest issue of Production Weekly and confirmed to us by a source very close to the project. It is something he is considering, but that’s it at the moment. But perhaps more tellingly, it clearly indicates that Fox is happy with how the “Predators” and “Machete“/ Troublemaker relationship is going so far and this is also indicated by the fact this is the second project in five months they have offered the Austin-based filmmaker (they also offered him the “Planet Of The Apes” reboot and he passed, but they also offered it to at least three other filmmakers too, which illustrates the randomness of an offer story — none of those directors took the gig).
Before you get your pants in a twist, keep in mind this is just an offer. Personally we don’t like the idea for myriad reasons that should be obvious considering our feelings about “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and C-list characters, but chiefly because we’d rather see the “Blade Runner” influenced sci-fi film “Nervewrackers” come to the screen and or any original or homegrown Troublemaker projects that have been brewing.
Our bet (hope) is he passes, but that’s just a total guess on our part. Is “Deadpool” star Ryan Reynolds still attached? Presumably yes, if they’re putting out offers. “Zombieland” writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick penned the “Deadpool” script. The fast-moving Rodriguez shoots “Spy Kids 4: Armageddon” this summer, and then has the Nimród Antal-helmed “Predators” in theaters on July 9 and “Machete” on September 3. Personally, we liked when this information (offers) stayed behind closed doors.
This is terrible.
It's not terrible because nothing has happened.
terrible defiantly describes most things robert rodriguez… whay would anyone offer him a film… though equally shitty fox that is a perfect fit… seriously he is not a good filmmaker just because he shoots digital… and he takes un-due credit for everything on his shitpile movies.
Are you people insane! When I hear Rodriguez is attached to a movie, I'm immediately sold.Desperado, Once Upon A Time In Mexico, Sin City and Planet Terror.I'm sure he's going to nail Deadpool.
Rodriguez is a perfect fit for the Deadpool movie. The tone that Deadpool needs to stay true to the comic is very similar to what we have seen in Rodiguez's previous works. From what I have read about the scripting, Reynolds, Reese and Wernick are working very hard at keeping the script true to its roots.

how is this terrible? how is robert rodriguez terrible? i'm sorry, if you don't like el mariachi, desperado, dusk till dawn, sin city or planet terror… then, well, you fail and need to remove the bug from your ass.
rodriguez is literally PERFECT for deadpool. i've been saying that for about 3 years now.
and to the person who wrote the article? a character who has 3 ongoing comic books that all sell above 30k a month is not c-list…
I think that this is an awesome idea. Deadpool should get his very own screen space. And what complaints do we have from Rob Rod? None.
But I'm all for this movie IF and ONLY IF Ryan Reynolds is involved. Else, it will just be a waste of time and money!
they will use ryan reynolds as deadpool he is the only person that is even close to deadpools insanity.
