Sometimes projects get announced, but by time they’re ready to roll in front of cameras, their shape changes, and that’s what’s happening with "The Discovery." The project was first revealed last fall as starring Rooney Mara and Nicholas Hoult, but with cameras now ready to roll (production was originally planned to start in January), the actor has been swapped out, and another added to round out the leading trio.
What’s Up Newport reveals that the movie will begin filming this month in Rhode Island, with Robert Redford and Jason Segel, the latter stepping in for Hoult, joining Rooney Mara in the film. Charlie McDowell ("The One I Love," starring Mark Duplass and Elisabeth Moss) will direct the love story set in a world where the existence of the afterlife is scientifically proven. Segel plays the son of the man responsible for this discovery, and Mara plays a woman he falls in love with, whose life is tinged by a tragic past.
So keep an eye out for "The Discovery," likely on the festival circuit next year. It’s a pretty solid leading trio, with an emerging filmmaker leading the way, in what sounds like low-key genre piece.
I\’m interested only because Rooney Mara is in it. I\’m more interested in the film she did with Malick.
The one I love was so flatly directed and contrived, really hope this will be better.
Who is going to root for a relationship between Rooney Mara and JAson Siegel? Couldn\’t have a more unlikeable male-female duo
It\’s a great script, but Chris Pine, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Nicolas Hoult have all dropped in the past. Really don\’t see the character for Jason Segel
I LOVE JASON SEGEL. GREAT CAST!
That\’s a hell of a cast and The One I Love was one of the best diamond in the rough finds from the last few years. I\’ll stick a pin in this one…
I\’m so happy Segel is getting more work. Can\’t wait for this.
