Got a Tip?

Robert Pattinson Will Hunt For Saddam Hussein In ‘Mission: Blacklist’

Robert PattinsonFranchise? Check. Working with an auteur? Check. Making a period movie based on classic book? Check. Looks like one of the last things Robert Pattinson has to check off his bucket list, besides making a comedy (though some would argue he's done that already), is making a movie about an Important Subject. Well, consider it done.

Every teenage girl's favorite vampire has signed up for "Mission: Blacklist" and his prey will be one of the most notorious figures of our time. Based on the book "Mission: Blacklist #1," the psychological thriller will be based on the true story of military interrogator Eric Maddox (who wrote the novel with Davin Seay) about the hunt for Saddam Hussein, and the events that led him to uncover the wanted leader in a spiderhole in Tikrit. The film will get some grit and a taste of authenticity from "Band Of Brothers" writer and producer Erik Jendresen who's penning the script. Some guy named Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire will direct in what looks to be his feature debut.

The project will be available for buyers at Cannes and we're guessing everyone will want to see how RPatz does in David Cronenberg's "Cosmopolis" before they sink their cash into this. Outside of the "Twilight" franchise, Pattinson hasn't been a solid gold seller, with one well performing hit in "Water For Elephants" and one miss with "Remember Me" (and perhaps two misses with "Bel Ami" which has done modestly overseas, and opens in limited release this summer against a slew of blockbusters). So we'll see how this pans out. [Deadline]

  1. CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE STOP GIVING HIM WORK! There are far more talented actors than him who are more worthy of the spotlight. He's trying to prove that he's a real actor? Hollywood has given him enough chances already. And he proves time and time again that he can't act.

  2. Rob is an amazing actor, he's smart, beautiful, smart, intelligent and his face is that of an Adonis. He will keep going forward and I know Rob fans will totally enjoy the ride. This has nothing to do with twilight. So folks stop bringing it up. And I'm glad to be his fan *sighs*
He is going to become one of the great actors in the future…hold on tight! I know Rob fans, true Rob fans will be watching this.

  3. My, My, so much hate.. I love how ANY article on Pattinson brings out so many haters.. he can't act.. wooden expressions.. blah fucking blah! cut him some slack you guys I was once like that.. when I heard he'll be playing Eric Packer in "Cosmopolis".. I went totally bat shit crazy but the trailers proved me wrong in fact "Cosmopolis" looks so completely made of awesome that I'm convinced it will be my future fave movie! plus I kinda liked him on "Water for Elephants" and "How to be".. anyways I won't judge him again before seeing anything.. looking forward to this one now! make me happy again Robby boy! I know you can do this! and for the 'nobody'director Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire.. I watched "Johnny Mad Dog".. though it's not one of the best I saw.. I think he can pull this off! good luck you guys!

  4. Instead of writing this off like the rest of this supportive crew here I looked up the director's work on IMDb. His film 'Johnny Mad Dog' about Liberia's child soldiers did very well critically. Guardian 5 stars http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2009/oct/22/johnny-mad-dog-review and won at Cannes 2008 http://twitchfilm.com/news/2008/05/cannes-prize-winners-announced.php

  5. He is getting better. I'm hoping Cosmopolis will be a hit. But, honestly, he is not ready for anything military. Except maybe as a cadet. This role will overwhelm him, and he won't be believable. He needs to do more character movies, before trying something like this. This the type of role that makes or breaks an actor.

  6. I didn't know military interrogators have womanly hips. Please, this is too funny to be true. RPats is the worst actor of this generation.

  7. LOL. I didn't really expect the Pavlovian behavior to begin so soon. Just type the name Pattinson and they come out of the woodwork. Playlist what has happened to the level of the readers here?

  8. 3-2-1.. Waiting for the kneejerk negatives to be posted. I say give him a chance. This kid is making some interesting choices. He is not a bad actor although some projects overall, admittedly, have been weak. He did well in Water for Elephants and I, for one, am looking forward to Cosmopolis. This has some potential. It doesn't appear to be an actioner but has a very intriguing premise and a strong screenwriter.

  9. This has fail written all over it. Movies about current political and military events don't usually do well at the box office and anything starring the lousy actor Pattinson is sure to be garbage.

  10. Remember Me made $56m on a $16m budget. I think that's a win but I guess if you have an agenda the facts don't matter. I'm happy to see Rob is continuing to challenge himself with his career choices and not taking the easy Rom Com.
