Robert Pattinson Talks “Sexual Experiments” Plotline Of ‘High Life,’ Lines Up Movie ‘Embrace Of The Serpent’ Director

“Twilight” allowed Robert Pattinson the opportunity to ride his fame into auteur-driven projects, and it looks like he’s in no hurry to get back to blockbuster land. And why should he? The actor received some of the best notices of his career this spring at Cannes for his turn in Josh and Benny Safdie‘s “Good Time,” he was excellent in James Gray‘s lovely “The Lost City Of Z,” and with name recognition enough to help get adventurous projects off the ground, Pattinson is in a pretty good place.

In the new issue of Cahiers Du Cinema (via Robert Pattinson World Wide), the actor reveals yet another intriguing film on his slate — a movie with Ciro Guerra, the director behind the acclaimed “Embrace Of The Serpent.” Not much else is known about that project, except that it’s brewing, however, one movie Pattinson will be getting too soon is Claire Denis‘ ambitious sci-fi “High Life.”

Penned by Denis, Zadie Smith and Nick Laird the film follows a group of skilled criminals who trade in facing jail time and capital punishment for agreeing to participate in a likely fatal government space mission into a black hole, where they will be tasked with finding alternate energy sources and will be part of human reproduction experiments. As Pattinson admits the storyline is a bit oddball.

“It will take place in the future, [my] character is an astronaut. He is a criminal who volunteered for a mission towards a black hole but he realizes when he is on his way there that a doctor wants to do sexual experiments on humans in space… (laughs). It’s a really weird movie. I did not think about it for a long time but Claire talked to me about it here in Cannes and she showed me space images tries which were completely crazy. I love Claire, I cannot believe I am going to work with her, and on a sci-fi project. It will be beautiful,” Pattinson said.

We can hardly wait for that one, so let’s hope it gets rolling soon.
