We guess the producers behind the upcoming Jeff Buckley biopic aren’t laughing anymore. Earlier in the year, a report popped up in the U.K. press that Robert Pattinson was being considered to take on the role of the late singer. When we reached out to one of the producers on the film at the time they denied those rumors saying, “I did see [the U.K. report], it’s pretty funny.”
Well, it looks like there is actual movement happening on that front (though he’s probably just one of a handful of young actors taking meetings). In an interview with the Philippine Daily Inquirer (via Bleeding Cool) Pattinson revealed, “I met his mom [Mary Guibert] who’s really great.” As for whether or not he’ll get the part, it’s too early to tell. “I don’t know,” he said. “It’s really not up to me. I love Jeff’s music. He was amazing.”
Earlier this month, it was revealed that the long-gestating biopic was finally moving forward with Jake Scott (“Welcome To The Rileys“) directing. The film will use David Browne‘s book “Dream Brother: The Lives and Music of Jeff and Tim Buckley,” as a resource and will have a script by Ryan Jaffe (”The Rocker”) with full access to Buckley’s catalog of music to tell his tragic tale.
There’s no word on if the actor who lands the part will attempt to emulate Buckley’s voice or if they’ll lip sync but Pattinson — who has penned songs for the “Twilight” films as well as “How To Be” — is quite aware he’s not in Buckley’s league when it comes to music. “I don’t really think I can sing like Jeff,” Pattinson said. “He was unique. Also, I can’t play guitar like him either. It would involve quite a lot of work. If someone just imitates Jeff’s voice, it wouldn’t be right. It’s always about the script. You have no idea how it’s going to represent someone.”
The production is gearing up to shoot this fall, and we’re sure more pretty faces will begin to leak as possible candidates for the film.
I agree with Kate….the thought of Twilight tweens, whose understanding of holy or profane necessarily involves fangs or pale skin, or holy water, listening to something as purely sacrosanct as Jeff, …this saddens me beyond measure, and I know he would have none of it. At least Robert is man enough to admit it. If it must be done, get someone like Jimmy Gnecco of Ours who CAN belt out a scream that would make Jeff proud. Franco? please. That stoner can\’t act his way out of a wet paper bag.

I\’m strangely not opposed to this idea. I don\’t know. I think he could do it. He seems like a smart guy with enough sensitivity to bring something interesting to the role. I\’d like to see what he\’d do with it.
But I\’m not particularly attached to any actor for this role. Taking a wait and see approach.
I don\’t see why once again people are Stijl talking trash about Robert pattinson . If u read his comments he said it himself although he loves the man\’s music he doesn\’t play guitar or sing like him …. I\’m a fan of James franco but some how now he can do everything right ??? Seriously !!!

Love Rob! He is so hot! So far, unfortunately, I’ve been dealing with men with no backbone, who make promises they cannot keep. A lot of men can’t handle a strong woman. I won’t cry for all the hunger in my heart. I’m dying to have a baby. In fact, my biological clock is already ticking and I don’t know how to describe it. It’s just becoming a physical need now. I want my son(s) to look like him. I am a 34 year old divorced woman with a young daughter but I’m excited to see what the future brings.
Robert Pattinson is just so cute and gorgeous! Even though I have a boyfriend, I’d still be a cougar for him! OMG I can’t wait for Breaking Dawn!!! OH YEAH BABY!!! 🙂
