Robert Pattinson Drops Out Of Saddam Hussein Thriller ‘Mission: Blacklist’

The Rover

Robert Pattinson is having a hell of a year. The former “Twilight” star has two films appearing at Cannes 2014David Cronenberg’s “Maps To The Stars” and David Michod’s “The Rover.” His already-completed bucket list achievement includes working with Werner Herzog (“Queen of The Desert”), Anton Corbijn (“Life”) and his to-do list includes acting for auteurs like James Gray (“Lost City Of Z”), James Marsh (“Hold on to Me“) and director/actor Brady Corbet (“The Childhood of a Leader”).

But a busy plate often means something has to go by the wayside. So the Wrap is reporting that Pattinson has dropped out of the Saddam Hussein thriller “Mission: Blacklist.” A psychological thriller, the movie is a true story of military interrogator Eric Maddox on the hunt for the Iraqi leader, and the events that led him to uncover the wanted man in a spiderhole in Tikrit.

Band Of Brothers” writer and producer Erik Jendresen wrote the script and Swedish filmmaker Jesper Ganslandt is still attached to direct. Having just wrapped Corbijn’s “Life” alongside Dane DeHaan, Pattinson apparently did not have sufficient time to prepare for the demanding role, so he chose to drop out instead. That’s certainly a blog for Sauvaire’s project, but the project does sound pretty juicy so we assume a replacement may not be far behind. Pattinson, in the meantime, may just want a well-deserved rest. A few new “The Rover” images below.

  1. I am truly disappointed he is not do this film…I bought the book close to a year ago when it was said he was doing it.,,I honestly believe it would have been an academy nomination…the book is great….oh well,,….another disappointment from the great one….LOL

  2. I think Rob makes choices that are good for him. I am sorry he left the project. But he knows what's best for himself I am so looking forward for the two movies to be shown at Cannes this year. Good luck to Robl

  3. I am sad that Rob is no longer attached to MissionBlacklist, He would have been brilliant in the role! He was attached to the film for 2 years, unfortunately it couldnt be made as the director changed.
Wish the team of MBL well and hope to hear some more casting news for Rob

  4. Robert Pattinson is the last actor on the planet to be accused of fearing the risky, unpredictable projects! in all these years since his career has started he proved himself as someone who doesn't give a sh about prestige, he never chose easy roles, always worked hard and gained respect from directors and colleges. after Twilight he could just seat back safely and exploit his beauty and heartthrob image. yet he never does this. but it doesn't make a difference for haters, they gonna hate anyway.
it's a shame such an interesting character won't be played by Robert, but i still wish the Mission project all the luck! 🙂

  5. Wow Rpazz dropped out from the movie where he had a lead role -full responsibility and unknown director- no prestige, no suprises here, this film so didn't fit to his modus operandi – a little as possible work for as much as possible acknowledgement.

  6. Rob has been given much praise about all these films coming out and yet no one has seen anyone of them. Rob could have adjusted his schedules. Other actors have done two films at once. In Mission he would have been the star. In the other films he is playing smaller parts.

  7. Too bad. I think he would have been impressive in the role. Still a decent project. Hope they do Eric Maddox's story justice. Definitely interesting.

  8. FYI but Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire is a French director (Johnny Mad Dog) who cast Robert Pattinson more than 2 years back. They hoped to film in Iraq but for obvious reasons it couldn't be realized. So Sauvaire left the project and the Swedish director Peter Genslandt took over.
