Okay, so it’s not quite Jack Nicholson, who the filmmakers were hoping for last fall, but a movie with Robert Duvall and Robert Downey Jr. in the lead roles still sounds pretty good us.
The veteran actor has signed up for “The Judge.” Downey Jr. has long been attached to the project, and last spring the “Wedding Crashers” and “Fred Claus” director David Dobkin came on board as well. And now with Iron Man free from his Marvel duties for the moment, this one is taking firmer shape. The dramedy centers on a big-time lawyer (RDJ) who returns home after his mother dies, only to learn that his father — who happens to be the judge (Duvall) — is a suspect. Working to get to the bottom of the case gives him the opportunity to reconnect with his family. “The King’s Speech” writer David Seidler and Nick Schenk both tackled drafts with Bill Dubuque (who made the 2011 Black List last year with “The Account“) writing the most recent screenplay.
This one is coming together to be RDJ’s next movie with Vera Farmiga and Elizabeth Banks both in contention for the (hopefully not thankless) ex-girlfriend role. [Variety]
come on… both of these guys should be doing Inherent Vice with PTA instead of a movie by the guy who made "Fred Claus"
