Robert De Niro is one of the greatest living actors on the planet. Through the course of his decades-long career, the actor has portrayed every type of person known to man, including gangsters, an overprotective dad, a dirty grandpa, and whatever is going on here. Long story short, the man is able to take just about any character thrown at him and make it work. But recently, he revealed to the BBC that there’s one character that he doesn’t think he’d ever be able to play.
When confronted with the question of whether or not there is a character that exists that De Niro doesn’t think he’d be able to portray, the actor quickly named the person he feels is in the category all by himself — President Donald J. Trump.
“That’s the only person I think I could never play,” revealed De Niro. “There’s nothing redeeming about his character, at all. It’s amazing. Nothing. He’s an odd one.”
He added, “It’s not that you try to justify the character’s behavior, but you try to look at it from the character’s point of view. They say everyone has their reasons. You gotta find out his or her reasons and proceed accordingly.”
While De Niro is not private about his dislike of the current White House administration and has even gone so far as to lampoon Trump on “Saturday Night Live” (portraying Robert Mueller in multiple skits), it appears that actually playing the President is a bridge too far for the Oscar winner.
And when we talk about the guy who actually starred in the live-action “Rocky and Bullwinkle” film, that’s saying quite a bit.
Robert De Niro can next be seen in the film “The Irishman,” which is in select theaters now and will be on Netflix on November 27.
