Hot off the heels of news that Danny Boyle may have decided upon his next project — a survival tale about a mountain climber who had to amputate his own arm when a boulder crushed it, that may star Ryan Gosling — comes more Boyle-related news.
Ewan McGregor might be decidedly against a sequel to “Trainspotting” — a legitimate one based off of Irvine Welsh’s follow-up novel, “Porno” — but Robert Carlyle, who played the unhinged sociopath Begbie, like Boyle, is all for it.
Apropos of nothing (or jounos constantly asking about it), Carylye told the BBC , “Personally, I would jump through hoops of fire backwards for Danny Boyle. I would do ‘Porno’ tomorrow for nothing.”
He also added that the psychotic role is, “probably the only character I would ever want to revisit because I do believe that there’s an awful lot more mileage there in Begbie. I think there is lots more entertainment to be had from that group of people so I would be up for it, and I know Danny seems to be edging more towards it. After his success at the Oscars, he should be able to pretty much do as he wants.”
But let’s face it, this is largely nothing new. Boyle has already said he’d love to revisit this story one day when everyone’s gray and old — though truthfully the cast is getting there — but for “Trainspotting” enthusiasts, knowing that at least one actor is onboard is probably keeping the flame alive somewhat.
Apparently a “Porno” script is in development, but it all still probably relies on McGregor who famously fell out with Boyle after “A Life Less Ordinary.” Maybe it’ll take a few more years of convincing and old age to wear down his defenses, but the Scottish actor has been pretty vehement that “Porno” was not a very good book in his estimation.
Porno is set 15 years after Trainspotting, so it'd be perfect if it was out in 2012.
Danny Boyle could just do it Todd Solondz style and cast all new actors in the role. I say Phillip Seymour Hoffman for Renton and Keenan Ivory Wayans for Begbie.
