Got a Tip?

Robert Altman’s ‘McCabe & Mrs. Miller,’ Orson Welles Films & More Head To Criterion August

In Hollywood, August is the month when the industry slows down a bit before the madness of the fall festival and awards season, but The Criterion Collection is using that time to drop some big guns. The boutique label has announced their latest slate of releases, and as usual, it’ll make your wallet cry.

At the top of the list for many cinephiles is Robert Altman‘s gorgeous anti-western “McCabe & Mrs. Miller.” Given a brand new 4K restoration, the release is coming packed with a plethora of interviews, along with a new documentary about the making of the movie. The only bummer is that neither Warren Beatty or Julie Christie are part of the new materials pulled together for the special features.

Orson Welles fans are getting a double dose with “Chimes At Midnight” and “The Immortal Story.” The former is, of course, the famed director’s take on Shakespeare, while the latter is Welles’ first color film and final completed fictional feature. Both releases will have a decent amount of extra material as well to wade into, as well as new restorations that will be a treat for your eyeballs.

Elsewhere, fans of the British New Wave will want to snap up Tony Richardson‘s “A Taste Of Honey” while Criterion has polished up the recent documentary “Ingrid Bergman: In Her Own Words” for release. Lastly, Hiroshi Teshigahara‘s “Woman In The Dunes” has been upgraded to Blu-ray.
