So, what can $1 million buy you these days? In Hollywood, not a helluva lot, unless you’re writer/director Mark Pellington.
That number is actually higher than the entire budget of his forthcoming thriller “I Melt With You.” The project already has Jeremy Piven and Thomas Jane set to star, and yet another well known face has come aboard the project, with Rob Lowe lending his particular swagger to the proceedings. The film, vaguely described as a “thriller [that] follows the interconnecting lives of four men,” will find Lowe playing “a doctor struggling with deep personal loss and a growing drug addiction.” The film will focus on the “pain of the modern male psyche” in what Pellington hopes will be this generation’s “Husbands.” Good luck with that.
We hate to be total downers, and really, this is exactly the kind of gritty filmmaking we usually champion, but Pellington’s feature track record hasn’t exactly been great (“The Mothman Prophecies,” “Henry Poole Is Here”) but hey, we’ll gladly eat our hats if we’re wrong.
“I Melt With You” will shoot in August and there’s no word yet on the fourth lead.
Watch "The Mothman Prophecies" again. Pellington is the real deal.
I agree, Trickypix… He's a master of visual storytelling. If he picked better material, he could be in the same league as David Fincher.
Also, give the man a break… If I went through the kind of personal tragedy he endured, I wouldn't be able to get out of bed, let alone direct a movie.
