Ricky Gervais Returns To Host The 2016 Golden Globes

nullRicky Gervais has had a love/hate relationship with hosting the Golden Globes. After his last time out, he said, “I’ve told my agent to never let me be persuaded to do it again,” but later told THR, “I’d love to do it again one day. It’s a good, fun industry party.” And that latter sentiment has prevailed.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Dick Clark Productions, and NBC have announced that Gervais will be hosting the 2016 Golden Globes. “Ricky Gervais left us with a lasting impression and we are thrilled to have him back in our show as we honor the best in film and television,” said Lorenzo Soria, President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. “His off-the-cuff wit and quirky charm will surely have the room and audiences around the world at the edge of their seats.”

The gig will kick off a busy year for Gervais who has two movies on the way in 2016 — "Foreign Correspondents," and the David Brent flick, "Life On The Road." And from an awards watching perspective it’s just good to know that between Gervais at the Globes, and Chris Rock at the Oscars, maybe the ceremonies won’t be completely dull this year (though, props to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler for their great work at the Globes the past couple of years).

The Golden Globes airs on January 10th.
