Almost as long in the works as his critically acclaimed "Boyhood," for years Richard Linklater has been developing or talking about this spiritual sequel to 1993’s "Dazed And Confused." Not a straight followup to the coming-of-age classic, "That’s What I’m Talking About" tweaks the formula a bit, and focuses on a new group of kids in a slightly different era. Instead of focusing on the end of an era, it will center on the start of something new, with the story about college freshman who are trying to make the baseball team. And Linklater has now started the casting process.
Deadline reports that offers are out to rising names Blake Jenner (aka Ryder Lynn on "Glee"), Tyler Hoechlin (star of "Teen Wolf"), and Wyatt Russell ("22 Jump Street"). There’s not many other details, but the trio, if scheduling and contracts work out, would be the leading men of the ’80s-set film.
No word yet on when production might begin, but if the Oscar train for "Boyhood" picks up — IFC Films have committed to launching a campaign for it — Linklater may be running from the set to swanky parties hoping to get his film into the final batch of nominees in January.
And Wooderson has GOT to play the baseball coach.
I\’m sure he\’ll make something great – though I\’ll admit I was hoping for a 20 yrs on reunion of the original cast, but set on new year\’s eve 1999, with McConaughey, Affleck, Posey etc. returning. Would have loved to see that. sigh.
It\’s a bug in IndieWire\’s system they are trying to fix.
