Edgar Wright has unveiled a shot of Jason Schwartzmann in his role as Gideon Graves in “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World.” Graves is the seventh and final evil-ex boyfriend that Michael Cera’s titular Scott Pilgrim’ must defeat in order to win the hand of Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). Graves’ character in the script amounts to an obnoxious, but amusing douchebag uber-hipster. [EdgarWrightHere]
Richard Linklater is set to take reigns of Miramax and Scott Rudin’s “Liars (A-E),” a rom-com about a woman who retrieves lost items from her ex-boyfriends as she is on her way to President Obama’s inauguration. Umm, what? Sounds like a comedy of errors pilgrimage. Kat Dennings is set to play a friend of the protagonist who hasn’t been cast yet. So much for the spiritual sequel to “Dazed & Confused,” but perhaps Linklater knows that indie pet-projects aren’t the best idea in this climate as of this moment and work-for-hires — hopefully ones that aren’t too soul-sucking; this one sounds congenial enough — are probably the right idea to keep the career afloat. Ron Livingston, Jim Gaffigan, Kelli Gellar, Rob Riggle and Jason Sudeikis have joined the cast of the Drew Barrymore and Justin Long led rom-com “Going the Distance,” about a couple who are in a long-distance relationship. Yawn for the most part, though we do like Livingston a lot. [Variety]
Sorry if this is a badgering, but I'm a wee bit confused– Kelli Gellar, or Kelli Garner?
According to Variety, Kelli Gellar.
Whatever Linklater does to pay the bills until we see a follow-up to Before Sunset is fine by me.
I can't disagree with that on some level. I don't like all of Linklater's films, but i have a soft spot for that guy cause he seems so genuinely nice.
We failed to mention "Me & Orson Welles" his last film that screened at TIFF last year and a picture I would presume no one is really going to bother to put out at this point. Someone should sell it to HBO or something because it's a movie you would see on the movie channels, but not of feature-film quality. It feels like made for TV.
I took my friends to see it at TIFF last year, simply because I wanted to take all my Toronto bffs to something and it was the only pic that synched up all scheds and they politely looked at me afterwards, "Yeah…. hmm, awesome. Let's go get a drink."
I can't say I blame them.
I completely forgot about Me & Orson Welles to be honest, largely in part due to what I read about it here. Maybe I'll catch it on TV in a few years (like I did with The Newton Boys and Fast Food Nation).
I also tend to forget about whatever it is that Linklater's been rumoured to be working on with Ethan Hawke for a week or two a year for the past few years. Something about the a child growing up, or something. Care to do some digging?
Variety must have made a mistake with the Going the Distance cast. I saw it mention Kelli Garner in another article.
