Ric Burns, responsible for the documentary history-lesson “The Civil War” along with brother Ken, has been paid by none other than Goldman Sachs to make a film about, guess who, Goldman Sachs. Some documentarians, such as Robert Greenwald (“Wal Mart: The High Cost of Low Price“), are against the move while others are excited about seeing the inner-workings of the company. The financial crisis is an important part in the history of the company, but given Burns’ resume (and the funding), the documentary is likely to focus on the company’s older days (the company dates back to 1869) rather than getting political with its latter day blunders. The most interesting thing about the story, though, is the fact that it will not be made for release, and only be available to Goldman Sachs employees only. Cinephile uproar coming soon.
Looks like all is not lost for Mandy Lane. Keith Calder, producer of “All the Boys Love Mandy Lane” tweeted “I now see a light at the end of the tunnel for Mandy,” along with star Amber Heard mentioning at Comic-Con that the wait for the film is over. While it was shelved after screening in 2006, top secret Comic-Con screenings went over well, with Bloody Disgusting giving it a positive review. We’re not terribly into it, but you can find the trailer here.
Doug Liman (the upcoming “Fair Game“) will produce and direct the MTV pilot “I Just Want My Pants Back,” based on the novel by David Rosen of the same name. The book follows character Jason Strider, “a recent Cornell grad more interested in marijuana, booze and quick lays than his boring job or romantic relationships” (Amazon). If you’re curious as to how much more juvenile Liman could get after “Jumper,” well, yeah, he went there.
And here’s the trailer for “Mesrine,” the celebrated French gangster epic that is finally landing on North American shores later this month in a limited release via Music Box Films. We saw the film at Fantasia and found it to be a disappointment but definitely agree with critics that Vincent Cassel is phenomenal in the lead of Jacques Mesrine. Watch it below:
