This weekend saw the big premiere of “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” at the Toronto International Film Festival. And if early reviews are to be believed, it would appear Rian Johnson has yet another major hit (and Oscar contender) coming our way. However, as we see with all franchise film releases, the question looming overhead is always “What’s next?” Well, Rian Johnson wants to keep making ‘Knives Out’ films. At least, until Daniel Craig gets annoyed.

Speaking at the premiere of ‘Glass Onion’ (via Variety), Rian Johnson was asked how many more ‘Knives Out’ films can fans expect. The filmmaker clearly enjoys putting Daniel Craig’s investigator character, Benoit Blanc, into new and unique mysteries. And Johnson minces no words that he would love to keep making ‘Knives Out’ films as long as Craig keeps answering the phone calls.
“I’m going to keep making these until Daniel blocks me on his phone,” Johnson said.
When it was announced that Rian Johnson signed a new deal to make more “Knives Out” films for Netflix, the assumption was that we were going to get at least three films total in the franchise. With ‘Glass Onion’ getting early raves, it would appear that a third one will get going sooner rather than later. And if this lovefest for Johnson and Craig doesn’t stop then, maybe a new “Knives Out” film could be coming on a semi-regular basis for the foreseeable future? We shall see.
As for now, we only know of “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” which is set to arrive on Netflix on December 23. A nice Christmas present for film fans, don’t ya think?
