We’re excited to see filmmaker Rian Johnson (“Looper,” “Star Wars: The Last Jedi“) make his television debut with “Poker Face,” a murder mystery streaming drama starring Natasha Lyonne (“Russian Doll“) that follows a traditional procedural format similar to iconic shows like “Murder She Wrote” or “Columbo.” Lyonne plays a sleuth working to solve different murders in each episode.
Johnson has added another actor he’s worked with previously to the Peacock show. Deadline reports that Oscar-winner Adrien Brody (“The French Dispatch“) has taken a role after previously working with the filmmaker on his grift comedy “Brothers Bloom.” Brody is no stranger to television work as he’s appeared on “Succession” and plays NBA coach Pat Riley in the sports dramedy “Winning Time.”
With plot details being kept under wraps, it’s unknown what the hook will be to separate “Poker Face” from the pack, but Johnson’s other murder mystery series, “Knives Out,” was certainly funny, so we’d definitely expect at least some kind of humorous angle.
Brody joins a growing cast that consists of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Stephanie Hsu, Benjamin Bratt, and David Castañeda. Lilla and Nora Zuckerman are the show’s executive producers/showrunners with Johnson creating, writing, and directing.
Given he appears in practically everything he makes, even small appearances in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” It’s only a matter of time before Johnson’s good luck charm Noah Segan joins the lineup.
Another project the director has been working on is shooting his Netflix whodunnit “Knives Out 2” which has a great cast led by Daniel Craig with the rest of the roles going to Edward Norton (“Fight Club,” “The Incredible Hulk,” “Moonrise Kingdom“), Janelle Monae (“Moonlight,” “Hidden Figures“), Kathryn Hahn (“WandaVision“), Jessica Henwick (“The Matrix 4,” “Iron Fist” ), Kate Hudson (“Almost Famous“), Madelyn Cline, Ethan Hawke (“Moon Knight“), and Leslie Odom Jr. (“Murder On The Orient Express,” “One Night In Miami“).
