Got a Tip?

Remakes Of ‘Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,’ ‘The Exorcist,’ And ‘Major League’ In The Works

"Ace Ventura: Pet Detective," "The Exorcist," And "Major League"Business and art often mix as well as oil and water in the world of making movies, and perhaps no statement makes that clearer than this statement by Morgan Creek CEO Jim Robinson to Deadline about the sale of the production company’s library of films: "I’m selling the library strictly for economic reasons. It will go back into the company to fund more production. We have a number of properties that we are looking to move forward on." Some of those properties he’s talking about? Well, they’re remakes.

Morgan Creek will hang on to the rights of five of their library titles —"Ace Ventura: Pet Detective," "Major League," "Young Guns," "Flying Tigers" and "The Exorcist"— and three are already in the works for redos: the Jim Carrey comedy, the Charlie Sheen baseball flick and William Friedkin‘s horror classic. That’s right, the debt free Morgan Creek is selling their library to fund remakes of movies they already own. Welcome to Hollywood.

Robinson confirmed those projects are in the works, though for how long is not quite clear. At one point a few years ago, "Major League 3" (which presumably ignored "Major League: Back to the Minors") was in development until Charlie Sheen spent several months in Crazy Town and effectively kiboshed it.

So prepare for new versions of movies where people talk out of their boots, vomit green puke, and mix baseball with hedonism. Or, just watch "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective," "The Exorcist," And "Major League" right now.

  1. Also, OF COURSE one of the first things Hollywood is clamoring to take a steaming dump on is The Exorcist. They weren\’t content with the prequel debacle or even the sequels – it\’s gotta be remade to make sure anyone with a fondness for the original has their memories tarnished even slightly!

  2. As mildly amusing (possibly even more than the reality) it would be to see Ace "talking out of his boot", it was his ass that occasionally did the talking (and singing, where warranted).

  3. Remaking The Exorcist is just impossible for so many reasons, first of all its so difficult to shock modern audiences in this day and age, it was a lot easier in the seventies, what could they possibly bring new to it a few CGI tricks which will fall flat,it just won\’t work capturing the terror of that original is pretty much impossible plain and simple.
