And they said fans couldn’t make it happen. First, the impossible is done with the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement and the eventual release of “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” on HBO Max, the director’s cut version of Warner Bros’ mangled “Justice League” movie from 2017, which he vacated after production. And now, #ReleaseTheZemoCut work. LOL, to back up a little bit. This is highly amusing, and you just never know when a) something will go viral and b) when someone will respond. So, if you’ve been watching Marvel’s “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier” series on Disney+, you know the most random and seemingly innocuous moment went viral with the villain Baron Zemo played by Daniel Bruhl.
For context, in the third episode of “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier,” Sam Wilson, aka the Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky, aka the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), break Baron Zemo—the villain from “Captain America: Civil War”—out of jail so he can help assist them in tracking down the new strain of the super serum that’s out in the world. Their mission takes them to the fictional Southeast Asia island of Madripoor.

Chasing down bad guys and leads, they eventually go mingle in da club for a little bit, and Zemo—previously grim and somber, now recast with more of a sense of arch humor—does a little fist-pumping dancing jig. It was a brief, throwaway moment, but fans latched on to it, made gifs, memes and helped the moment go viral. But there was much more from it that wasn’t seen on the show.
“It was a long dance,” he told EW last week of the improvised bit. “There’s more to it, but they cut this little moment .” Fans responded in kind, making #ReleaseTheZemoCut jokes, and instead of waiting four years (lol), Marvel has responded, releasing the entire scene, seemingly cutting together every piece of footage to create the “ZemoCut” and have created a looping YouTube clip that goes on for an hour. If there’s toxic fandom getting what they want and setting a bad precedent, well, maybe this is the amusing, beneficial side of all that, that Marvel’s playfully toying with? Who knows, but it’s out now, and you can enjoy it (the whole clip seems to be about two minutes long and then looped over for an hour).
The 4th episode of “The Falcon And The Winter Solider” airs this Friday. Zemo may seem much more erudite, sophisticated, and jovial in the season so far, but Bruhl still considers him deeply untrustworthy. “No, never [trust him],” he told THR. “If it’s hard to read and tell what somebody is up to, that ambiguity … is always fun. So, yeah, you shouldn’t really trust him. But I guess it has become apparent that he is not an evil supervillain; there’s more to him, which we already know from [‘Captain America: Civil War’]. So I understand if people empathize with Zemo, and I would understand if everybody joins Team Zemo by the end of the show.”
