Release Date Madness: ‘Up In The Air’ Flies On November 13th In Limited Release, More Date Change Shuffles

A flurry of action on the release date change schedule.

Jason Reitman’s buzzed-about downsizing dramedy, “Up In The Air,” now has a limited release date of November 13th. This likely means New York and L.A.. It’s rumored wide release date was December 4, but it appears the film will slowly roll out and begin to go wider on November 25.

This is an interesting move as it pits “Up In The Air” against two Weinstein Company films and potential award contenders, “The Road” and “Nine,” both of which hit on November 25 (though “The Road” at this point seems less of a threat).

Peter Jackson’s serial-killer-killed-me-dreamscape-revenge drama “The Lovely Bones,” has been shifted to a wide release on January 15th. The original release date, December 11th, will only be seen in limited theaters with a small expansion on December 25th.

We can’t remember if we’ve said this one already, but Wes Anderson’s “Fantastic Mr. Fox” will hit theaters in limited release on November 13th before opening wide on November 25th.

The Coen brothers “A Serious Man,” will hit as a select-theater release (semi-limited) on October 2nd as originally scheduled, but the U.S. premiere will now be on Sept. 24 at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York City. Someone please hook us up with tix to that. Jessica, that means you, we’re going to miss this one at TIFF. 😉

Likewise Michael Moore’s financial crisis screed/satire documentary “Capitalism: A Love Story” will hit theaters on October 2 and has a special engagement in New York early on September 23, however it’s U.S. premiere is officially Sept. 21 at the Alice Tully Hall in New York, as a special event in advance of its New York Film Festival screening. It’s being called a pre-addition to NYFF.

It’s all pretty much whatever to us, just remember to send over an invite.

  1. Can you clarify this sentence: "December 11th release date is not a limited theaters one and it will expand December 25 and before going wide on January 15th."

Did you mean to say that the 11th date *is* a limited theaters release? And what's supposed to come between "and" and "before"? You really should proofread your entries. This site is a great source of news but the writing is often very sloppy.

  2. The new year dumping ground is looking even better with The Lovely Bones now (Wolfman, Shutter Island, and later Green Zone). Hopefully it won't go the way of Defiance and flame out quickly after a Christmas Day limited release.
